Amritsari Fish Fry

YIELD: 3-4 servings

TOTAL TIME: 30-40 mins


  • Fish (basa) : 300gms (cut into cubes)

  • Lemon juice: 1/2 tbsp

  • Ginger garlic paste: 1 tbsp

  • Red chilli powder- 1/2 tbsp

  • Vinegar- 1 tsp

  • Salt to taste

  • Gram flour: 1/2 cup

  • Rice flour: 1 tbsp

  • Thick yogurt: 1/4th cup

  • Oil as required

  • Fresh mint leaves to garnish

  • Sliced onions to serve with

  • Chaat masala (optional)


  1. Add the fish to a bowl. Add red chilli powder, salt, ginger garlic paste, lemon juice, vinegar and mix well. Set aside for 20-30 mins.

  2. Heat sufficient oil in a wok.

  3. Add gram flour, rice flour and yogurt to the fish. Mix well.

  4. Deep fry the fish one at a time till golden brown and crisp.

  5. Drain and place on an absorbent paper.

  6. Serve hot sprinkled with chaat masala, lemon wedges and sliced onions.
